Steven Johnsons Syndrome is a hypersensitivity reaction where there is necrosis (death of cells) in the epidermal layer due to the loss of the dermis layer of the epidermis. Steven Johnsons Syndrome is a serious condition and can cause blindness and even death.
Epidemiology of Steven Johnsons Syndrome is actually fairly rare, it was only around 2 to 6.1 persons per million inhabitants / year. Steven Johnsons Syndrome is caused by abnormalities in the immune system of our body. This disorder can be triggered into SJS by the presence of infection and drug intake. Infections that commonly cause SJS include Herpes Simplex, influenza, Mumps. While drugs that commonly cause SJS is mainly from anti convulsion and NSAID groups.
