What does a smokers lungs look like while their alive say a 10 year smoker.?

You always see those pictures of a 40 year smoker who died of a lung disease but what about ex smokers like me? I smoked for 10 years what do my lungs look like? Please give me a radical answer im an expert on cillia regrowth and all of the statistics related to quitting smoking. My question is somewhat theoretical is it possible that the lungs can heal and your dna can revert and change the alveoli back to normal? Is it possible that swimming running can influnce some tar removal what happens please any experts or med students?

Yes the lungs can get to normal over a period of time not smoking, the progress is very slow but in the end very effective

  1. Not a med student but I've paid attention to the smoking debate most of my life.
It is my understanding that if you have been an x-smoker for 10 years, than the damage would be reversed by now.
If you're feeling a reduced level of breathing capacity it is probably due to lack of exercise or advancing age, in which case swimming or any aerobic activity would help.
