Positive impact of fasting is not only on emotional control, but also on the health side. Some of the benefits of fasting from the medical side include keeping blood sugar levels in the body, preventing tumors, and healthy digestion. Other positive benefits of fasting, increasing the effectiveness of the drug in patients on chemotherapy.

The conclusions obtained after the researchers conducted experiments on mice that fasted for two days after the chemotherapy. Experimental results showed that fasting protect mice from the poison that comes from drugs, high doses given during chemotherapy. Although the mice body weight decreased, but after fasting, body weight back to normal.

Researchers reveal the process of chemotherapy, which lost not only cancer cells but also can eliminate cells that are still in good health. By fasting for several days, cells which are still healthy can be protected and the treatment can work effectively because it only focused on the cancer cells that are dangerous.

In a research report also revealed the effects of hunger on cancer cells and normal cells. Hunger is associated with cell response, and makes 1000 times more cells are protected.

“Most importantly, the experiment has consistently shown that healthy cells in the body of the fasting mice are protected from damage,” said one researcher, Valter Longo, PhD, from the University of Southern California.

Body’s response to hunger when fasting is making healthy cells that are still protected from the toxins that come from high-dose drugs given during chemotherapy. Researchers also added that more research needs to see the response in the human body cells.
