Mediterranean diet is very effective for people with diabetes. In addition to reducing the sugar levels in the body, the Mediterranean diet can also control the fat and calories in the body. With the Mediterranean diet, consumption of sugar controlling drugs in people with diabetes can also decrease. That’s according to research by a team from the University of Naples, Italy.
Research headed by Dr. Dario Giugliano, involving 215 patients with diabetes type 2. The patients are required to perform the Mediterranean diet for four years. The result, after 4 years the blood sugar levels of patients reduced 44% significantly. Then 70% of patients also reduced their fat levels.
In the first year the condition of the patients was controlled by nutrition experts every month. In the second year until the fourth, the control carried out every two months. The medical examination of the patients showed increased levels of HDL in the body.
Mediterranean diet is synonymous with a lot of eating lots of vegetables, fruits, grain and reduces consumption of red meat. Cooking process was minimized, fat intake obtained only from olive oil and nuts. Then, as much as possible avoid instant foods.
