Chest Pain Question?
I am 23 M 220lbs and 5'8. Fam History: Grandfather died of heart attack.
For, about the past three weeks, I had been experiencing some chest pains. It kind of felt like something was pushing on my heart. It is usually at rest. Well, Monday it got pretty bad and we went to the ER. I had X-Ray, blood work and EKG- EKG was okay, but they said (not word for word) that I may have a blood clot (the nurse spoke so fast) so they were waiting on the blood results, and if that showed trouble, I would have to have a cat scan- and I did; which, came back great. The nurse said they had many people who came in that night and all were positive but when they did ct scan, everything was fine (could their equip. be messed up?) Doc said I am too young/healthy to experience this.
My fiancee and I are in the midst of buying a new home, getting married, and I am looking for a new job- could it be stress?
Have you experienced this? I have an appt. tomorrow with fam doc. May be doing stress tests.
HELP!
Chest pain is a common complaint…the most common in fact.
The clot discussion you had refers to a pulmonary embolism, a clot in the lung….usualy traveling from a knee or injured extremity,,,or as a result of women using birth control…surgical procedures etc.
They did a d-dimer blood test…a cheap way to screen likelyhood of an embolism followed by the more espensive ct scan.
In a young patient without significant histroy ( mom and dad dead at 40 by MI) the likelyhood of you haveing a heart attack is LOW.
Shame on the doctor for saying impossible though.
other causes are prolapsed mitral valve, anxiety, stimulant use, pneumonia, gastric esogeal reflux disease, and a host of other stuff.
im not sure but it almost sounds like 1 of 2 things: 1) possible panic attack- they have similar symptoms of heart attack. Pressure nside of chest cavity, pains etc. 2) possible high blood pressure. My boyfriend is 29 and has been on BP medicine since he was about 24. They ran all the same tests on him that you had run and didnt find anything. They performed a stress test which surprise, was so overly stressful on the body that he virtually collapsed. He was so distressed about having to go through that again that he never went back to complete it and consequently has no real answers. Since we started dated a few months ago he's been experiencing sharp, acute pains in his chest and finally went back. They up'd his BP dosage. Either the medication is handling it or his stress level is lower. You didnt mention anything about your blood pressure, and its routine they check that at any dr visit. Do you remember if they said it was normal or high? That could really be a key factor. But with all the other details you provided it sounds a lot like stress. You gotta lot on your plate! Just remember to breathe!!!
